From the Director of Student Health Services...

The UNO Student Heath Services provides health care to all students including disabled and international. The clinic is staffed with internal medicine / pediatric physicians, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, a health educator, and a pharmacist. Student Health Services is a comprehensive medical clinic, offering gynecological exams, sexually transmitted disease testing, physical exams, basic first aid, birth control, and maintenance of chronic illness (diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, etc...) and treatment of minor ailments.

The health educator provides pre and post test counseling for HIV. In addition smoking cessation, nutrition and stress management programs are offered. The pharmacy supplies medications (prescription and over the counter) at a discounted rate for the UNO community. We serve as a resource for health outreach programs and basic health education for the UNO community. While our main goal is to provide preventive and adequate healthcare to the UNO students, we also offer immunizations to faculty and staff for a fee.

Services for students are covered by a health fee equal to 2% of tuition. There are modest charges for lab fees.

The Pharmacy is open for business!Stop by and see Cindy Lee, Director of Pharmacy to answer questions and fill your prescriptions while on campus.

Dr. B., Lo Medical Director, and all of the staff wish you a healthy and successful semester.

Sincerely,
Denise G. Perez, Director
Student Health Services

Very Important
Immunization Information

Dear New/Re-Entering UNO Student:

On behalf of the staff of Student Health Services, welcome to the University of New Orleans.
As a new or re-entering student, you are subject to a State legislated pre-matriculation immunization
statute which requires that you provide UNO with your immunization status regarding MEASLES,
MUMPS, RUBELLA, DIPHTHERIA and TETANUS, in addition a MENINGOCOCCAL immunization is
required. The Proof of Immunization Compliance is on the other side of this sheet.
The following is a summary of the guidelines of the Louisiana State Health Department:

  1. Diphtheria-Tetanus (DT) immunizations in the last ten years.

  2. If you were born on or after January 1, 1957, two measles-mumps-rubella immunizations are
    needed.
2.1 The first of these immunizations must be given after 1967, after your first birthday, and
given without gamma globulin. The second must be given at least 30 days later.

2.2 If you had the disease, one of two proofs is necessary:

2.2.1 A blood test, called a titer, which shows immunity to the disease.

2.2.2 The signature of the physician who attended you when you were ill with the disease.

  3. If you were born before 1957, there is no measles-mumps-rubella requirement.

  4. If you were born before 1957, the diphtheria-tetanus requirement still applies.

  5. A meningococcal immunization in the last four years.

  6. Please have the compliance form completed and returned prior to registration. Failure to do so will result in your registration being delayed or denied. The information may be faxed, mailed, or returned in person.

  7. The immunization waiver can be completed online by clicking this link: http://studenthealth.uno.edu/immunization/form/

If you are a new or re-entering student who needs Immunization:

The UNO Student Health Services can provide immunization for students that have been admitted but may not have paid fees yet or attended classes.

There is a fee associated with these immunizations and are payable at the time of service.
